Program Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech- Marrakech:

8 days from Marrakech to the desert, Flight to Marrakech. Arrival in Marrakech, pick up at the airport and transfer to the accommodation. Rest of the day free to discover the “red city”. The sunset in any city or town in Morocco is quite a spectacle and in Marrakech even more so. People take to the streets and in the Jemma el Fna square, declared a Universal Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, you can see acrobats, storytellers, water vendors, dancers and musicians. This place is perfect for taking the pulse of the city, seeing how it is transformed and filled with colour. Also to enjoy a dinner in the stalls that are set up at dusk in the square, turning it into a great open-air restaurant, this is one of the most typical things in Marrakech for tourists and locals.

Day 2: Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat – Fes:

Breakfast and, very early, departure to Casablanca. Time to visit the interior of the Hassan II Mosque, the highest in the world and the second largest after Mecca. Then you will continue to Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco, to take a walk through its medina and see the “Hassan tower”, sister to the Kotubia in Marrakech and the Giralda in Seville. You will continue on your way to Fez, known as the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco, center of art and science. Heritage of humanity by unesco. It is the pioneer in the Muslim cult in Morocco and has one of the oldest universities in the world. Accommodation in riad. Note: Departures from December 1, 2018 will not visit Casablanca.

Day 3: Fes- Fes:

Breakfast. Full day to enjoy this wonderful city, the first to be considered the capital of the empire. The Medina of Fez el-Bali is one of the largest medieval sites in the world, it is a magical place full of life. Visit of the old madrasa (Koranic school), the Nejjarine fountain, the Karaouyinque mosque (current seat of the University of Fez) and the Moulay Idris Mausoleum. Adjacent to the old walled city is Fez el-Jdid, the former seat of the Jewish community. The Mellah (Jewish quarter) was the first to be established as such in Morocco when the Jews were transferred from the old part of Fez to Hims, built in a place known as al-Mallah, “The salt flat”. Over time this term was used to designate the Jewish neighborhoods of the cities of Morocco. It is the oldest structured neighborhood in Morocco. Here you will be able to appreciate the different architecture of this neighborhood with its characteristic alleyways, its balconies and exterior openings decorated with wooden elements. And of course stroll through the narrow streets to discover the tanners, dyers and artisans. Accommodation in riad.

Day 4: Fes – Ifran – Azrou – Midelt – Erg Chebbi:

After breakfast we will leave for Ifrane, known as the “little Switzerland”, since the architecture of this small mountain town has nothing to do with the traditional architecture of the country. Our path will then take us to Azrou, another charming city surrounded by cedar forests with monkeys. We will continue to Midelt, on the slopes of Mount Ayachi. Its location as a crossroads makes this city an important market for farmers, ranchers, and stone and fossil artisans. You will pass by the impressive palm groves of the Ziz valley and little by little you will notice how the landscape is increasingly desert-like until you reach the Erg Chebbi dunes. Arrival at the hotel next to the dunes and some time to leave your things and prepare for the camel ride and admire the magical desert sunset. Later, you can enjoy a magnificent dinner and the music of the Berber drums. Note: possibility of spending the night in a typical jaima (Berber tent) with a camel ride to and from the camp. (Check availability and supplement).

Day 5: Erg Chebbi Dunes – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou:

After breakfast, departure to the Dades Valley. Little by little you will leave the desert landscape to find beautiful palm groves like the one in Tineghir. There you will deviate to take a short walk through the Todra gorges with their gorges of up to 300m. You will return to the route and, a little further on in the valley of the roses, take a detour to enjoy the impressive views offered by the road of the Dades gorges. You will return to what is known as the “Route of the thousand Kasbahs” to continue on your way to Ouarzazate with its Kasbah Taourirt, the former residence of the Pasha of Marrakech. Just a few kilometers away you will find the end of today’s stage, the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Homemade dinner and accommodation in the riad. Further on, in the Valley of the Roses, take a detour to enjoy the impressive views offered by the road to the Dades Gorges.

Day 6: Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech:

After breakfast, we will take a nice walk through this magical place that, in 1987, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the most famous and best preserved fortified village (ksar) in Morocco. In this kasbah, which dominates the Ounilla valley, countless films have been recorded, such as Lawrence of Arabia, the mummy or Alexander the Great, among others. Later you will set off to cross the Atlas through the Tizi N’Tichka mountain pass with 2,260m altitude and incredible views. You will be accompanied along the way by Berber villages, farms and spectacular landscapes until you reach Marrakech. Arrival and accommodation in riad. Rest of the day free.

Day 7: Marrakech- Marrakech:

After breakfast you can go out to enjoy the city throughout the day. Marrakech was the capital for several dynasties, the Almoravids, the Almohads and the Saadians. Its origins are unclear, but it is believed to have begun as a military camp established by the Almoravid chief Abu Bekeren in 1070. His successor, Yousef Ben Tachafin, began the task of turning this oasis into a worthy capital of his empire, which stretched from the Atlantic to Algeria and from the Sahara to the Ebro. Visit to the Ben Yousef Madrasa, in its time the most important in North Africa. Then visit the Bahia Palace, built at the end of the 19th century by Si Moussa, the sultan’s grand vizier, who dedicated this magnificent palace to his favorite, Bahia means beautiful or brilliant. You will continue walking through the mellah and the narrow streets of the medina. Rest of the day free to discover corners of this surprising city, take the opportunity to go to a hammam, do some shopping or have a drink in one of the wonderful terraces.
