Program Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora – Camel ride and night in a Berber tent:

After breakfast at your riad, you will depart southeast following the Caravan paths towards Merzouga. During this trip, you will experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountains. Stopping in the cedar forest, the largest in Morocco, over the Middle Atlas mountains, where you can well see the barbarian apes. After lunch in Midelt, you will continue through the great high open desert, noting how the landscape changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the town of Errachidia. Your journey continues along the lush Ziz Valley and the palm grove of Tafilalet, famous for the cultivation of dates. This area is the base of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling royal family in Morocco. You will arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon, to be greeted with a glass of mint tea before checking into your riad.

Day 2: Merzouga area – Rissani Market – Erg Chebbi – Camel trek and accommodation in Berber tent:

After breakfast at the riad, you will start an exploratory tour of the area. You will visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away is the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations. You can also visit the souk in Rissani, a traditional town that was the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and the meeting place for the caravans that trade to Timbuktu in Mali. Here you will see many hooded men and veiled women. Back to Merzouga village to rest, in the afternoon you will ride your camel, guided by an experienced camel to explore in the Merzouga sand sea. We will spend the night in our desert camp, where you will have dinner. For your convenience, the camp is equipped with western toilets.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Todra Gorges – Tinghir Palm Groves – Dades Gorges:

Early in the morning, your camel guide will wake you up to see what may be the best sunrise of your life. After sunrise, you will return to the village of Merzouga. Along the way you cannot fail to appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes, which change with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in your riad, you will depart for the Rissani, Tinghir and Todra gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco. After lunch in the heart of the gorge, we will drive through the Dades Valley, where you will see the majestic sand castles and the incredible rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation will be in a luxurious hotel overlooking the Dades Valley.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Kasbah Amridil – Skoura palm groves – Ouarzazate:

After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through the Dades Valley is the path of a thousand Kasbahs, providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best pictures of the trip. We will stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the city of roses”, to buy rose water, which will keep your clothes smelling good long after your trip is over. Continue to Ouarzazate via Amridil Kasbah, one of the last Berber chieftains during the 18th century, now the Kasbah is a house of many Glaoui people. In the evening, you will stop in Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi N’Tichka Pass – Marrakech:

After an early breakfast in the riad, we start our journey to reach the ksar (fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will visit the famous Kasbah (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986). Famous movies have been filmed in this spectacular stage, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz…etc. After visiting the kasbah we will go to Marrakech, we will see the port of Tizi N’tichka, that. with 2,260m it is the highest point in our country. We will enjoy beautiful landscapes from the viewpoints along the way and we will make some stops to take photos of the Berber villages, in the late afternoon and check in at your riad inside the Medina. Night in the riad.
