4 Days Desert Tour From Marrakech to Fes

Day 1: Marrakech » Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate » Dades Valley [315 Km]:

Our driver/guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech and start the 4 days trip from Marrakech to Fes through the desert.

The exit to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987) over the high Atlas mountains crossing the Tizi N’tichka pass, it is 2260 m high, visit the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the famous Moroccan historical building, and stop for lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we will drive to the city of Ouarzazate and stop near the atlas film studios to take a picture and then the city center for a picturesque view of the Taourirt kasbah, a historic fortified residence.

After that, you will head to Kalaat M’gouna and Boumalne Dades for one night. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 2: Dades » Todra Gorges » Erfoud » Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) [255 km]:

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, drive towards Tinghir passing through Boumalne du Dades and stopping for a panoramic view of the Dades valley. Later, we will continue to Todra Gorges via Imider and Tinghir.

Along the way, you’ll make several stops to take photos and admire the views. Arrive at Todra Gorges to enjoy its spectacular Canyon landscapes while walking through its narrow valleys.

In the afternoon we continue to Tinjdad and take a break for lunch then to Erfoud, known for its fossil makers. After that you will continue to the captivating Erg Chebbi dunes, these impressive dunes are also called Merzouga Dunes.

Arrive at the edge of the dunes and prepare for a camel trek for an hour and a half to enjoy the sunset in an atmosphere of laughter and adventure.

While on the back of your dromedary in silence, just the sound of the camel’s footprint in the sand, you will continue to the camp to spend the night in a traditional nomad tent.

A delicious dinner and entertainment around the fire (Berber drums) before spending the night in a well equipped desert camp with all the comforts in the middle of the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga desert » Nomadic families » Erg Chebbi [40 Km]:

 On the third day of our 4 day trip from Marrakech to Fes through the desert. A spectacular morning in the middle of the Sahara desert and an impressive sunrise while you are in a place without borders, it is definitely worth getting up early to witness the most spectacular sunrise you have ever seen from the top of a dune near the campsite and enjoy this unique landscape.

In the morning, a hearty breakfast awaits you, take a shower, before taking the camels and heading back to Merzouga.

Then we will explore the Erg Chebbi and its small towns, a large expanse of a sandy desert where we can find the Great Dune of Morocco. We then continue along the road that was previously used for the “Paris – Dakar” and we end up in the black desert.

The next stop will be at a viewpoint to contemplate the Erg Chebbi hole. Then we will reach Kamilia Village, most of the inhabitants here are dark-skinned people originally from Mali, where we will have a relaxing cup of tea while listening to a concert of local Gnawa music.

Stop in Mefis, a small abandoned town still present in the area, where you will have the opportunity to discover lead mines and other minerals from the French colonial era, then continue along a path where we can meet a nomadic family living in tents. and learn its secrets and practices.

Transfer to your accommodation and free time in the afternoon to enjoy the town or the dunes next to the hotel to watch the sunset. Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 4: Merzouga » Ziz Valley » Azrou Cedar Forest and Barbary Monkeys » Fez [466 km]:

After breakfast, we start our last day of the 4-day trip from Marrakech to Fez north through the Tafilalet palm grove, the largest in the country.

You will see thousands of palm trees along the 20 km of road. On the way to the Ziz valley, which is the source of the water that feeds this palm grove. Here we make a stop and from this high viewpoint, we will experience a majestic scene of the valley and the city of Aoufous.

Appointment with another stop in the city of Midelt, right in the heart of the Atlas where you will have free time to have lunch and rest for a while. In the afternoon we continue our way through the Azrou cedar forest where, if we are lucky, we will see some Barbary monkeys next to the road.

The next place we will visit is the city of Ifrane, located on the northwestern slope of the Middle Atlas at 1630 meters above sea level. Its wide avenues, its urban development with excellent cleanliness, the green areas, the gardens and it su architecture make this city look like a Swiss village.

Ifrane feels out of place in Morocco. That is why it is known as “Moroccan Switzerland”, and as if that were not enough, it has an important ski resort (Michlifen). Around 6 pm we arrive in Fez, transfer to your accommodation and end of our services. (4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes)
